What you will do:

The primary duties of this position are to support the Critical Care clinicians and students with procedures and duties that do not fall within the normal purview of the nursing care technicians in the Intensive and Intermediate Care Units. Responsibilities of this position include the following.

• Assist students and clinicians assigned to the Critical Care Service with morning and afternoon patient physical examinations and treatments 7 days/week.
• Schedule, organize, set-up, and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed on patients managed by the Critical Care Service.
• Communication liaison
• Maintain fluency with all aspects of the EMR system including clinical and communication documentation, procedure and medication requests, financial status, and scheduling.
• Operate, care for, maintain, and manage inventory for Critical Care equipment.
• Provide floating backup coverage to the nursing care units and other services in the Companion Animal Hospital as determined and assigned by supervisor.
• Instruction of veterinary students, interns and occasionally residents, in technical skills and procedures.
• Support clinical orientation for students on the Critical Care Rotation.
• Communicate regularly with the section supervisor and faculty regarding potential problems/concerns and answer routine medical questions for clients and students.

We are hiring 2 Licensed Veterinary Technicians- Hours to be determined, but will primarily be days and likely 4-10 hour shifts, which will include one weekend day shift. The Critical Care Service manages patients 7-days/week and the CUHA provides patient care 24/7. Staff are required to work some holiday shifts and will need to be flexible to potential shift adjustments as needs arise (this may include some non-daytime hours).

What We Need from You:

• Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology with 1-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• New York State licensure.
• Natural inclination towards leadership, thrives in an independent, yet team-oriented work environment and can efficiently facilitate and connect to various services within a complex institution.
• Interest in on-going career growth and advanced skill development
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including, but not limited to, stressful situations, prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 lbs.
• Rabies pre-exposure vaccination and titer costs covered by Cornell
