About the Center for Technology Licensing
The Center for Technology Licensing (CTL) is Cornell University's technology transfer office. We manage Cornell technologies from Cornell's Ithaca campus, Weill Cornell Medical Colleges, Cornell Tech and the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva.
CTL works with Cornell researchers to identify new technologies, protect technologies through patents, trademarks and copyrights, market and license technologies to companies and/or facilitate creation of start-up companies based on Cornell technology. Learn more here:
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about the intersection of academia, innovation, and legal compliance? Cornell's Center for Technology Licensing is seeking a diligent and proactive Intellectual Property and Governance Assistant (IPGA) to play a pivotal role in ensuring the university's adherence to complex and evolving governmental legal requirements for reporting inventions. This role is integral to the life cycle management of intellectual properties and inventions, fostering an environment where academic innovations thrive within legal frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Management and Compliance: Maintain specialized databases to track the life cycle of inventions, ensuring accurate recording of new disclosures and compliance with governmental reporting requirements.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and submit documentation for governmental agencies, monitor due dates, generate confirmatory licenses, and ensure proper use of government support clauses in applications and patents.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with various departmental staff, Business Development and Licensing Officers (BDOs), and external partners to facilitate effective communication of deadlines, requirements, and changes in reporting standards.
Annuity and Maintenance Oversight: Oversee annuity payments, ensuring their proper implementation and recording, and maintain accuracy in the Annuity Management System (AMS).
Continuous Improvement: Stay informed of changes in reporting requirements, suggest process improvements, and conduct audits for data accuracy.
