Who We Are
Research and Innovation (RI), led by the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI), enables, and advances the University's research priorities as well as research activities of Cornell colleges, schools, and research centers, institutes, and laboratories.
The Center for Advanced Computing provides a broad range of services that support the computational research needs of Cornell faculty. The Center's role is to enable and empower research capabilities and help Cornell's scientists, researchers, and scholars achieve new and innovative breakthrough research. Our team provides expertise on high performance compute clusters, cloud computing through our Red Cloud service, and technology and application consulting tailored to individual research needs.
What You Will Do
Design, deploy, and manage physical and virtual High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and servers. Integrate HPC systems into the existing heterogeneous computing environment that includes both local and cloud domains running multiple operating systems (Linux, Windows, OSX, other). Lead the Center's efforts for testing, evaluating, and implementing solutions using emerging technologies (cloud, application containerization, software defined network and storage) to meet customer needs. Responsible for investigating interoperability issues while maintaining a stable infrastructure. Required to work collaboratively with the CAC systems team towards common goals.

B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field along with 5-7 years of experience managing Linux servers and HPC clusters or the equivalent combination. A working knowledge of cloud services and virtualization platforms. A background in evaluating future technologies and providing recommendations for upgrades and installations. Proven experience using compilers to build and debug scientific software installations. Demonstrable skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and written and oral communication. Demonstrated ability to interact with others on a collaborative team toward a shared project goal. Ability to work well with a diverse group in a professional and respectful work environment. Administration of Linux core services such as SSH, LDAP, Samba, NFS, and sudo. Scripting proficiency on various Linux platforms (Python, Shell, Java). Understanding and ability to address interoperability issues. Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

An advanced degree is preferred. Experience with job schedulers (SLURM), provisioning tools (warewulf), real-time monitoring tools (OpenXDMod), distributed and parallel file systems (CEPHFS, NFS, Lustre, BeeGFS) and virtualization platforms (Openstack) is a plus.
