The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time assistant/associate/full professor position as Director of the Teaching Dairy, a state-of-the-art facility conveniently located across from the veterinary college. The Teaching Dairy houses approx. 200 cattle and allows students access to a teaching herd to hone clinical skills, animal care, and management through courses and employment.

Individuals with demonstrated expertise in dairy management, collaborative work, and leadership are encouraged to apply. Candidates having a D.V.M. degree or equivalent are preferred. Individuals with teaching experience and who have developed their dairy production medicine skills through advanced training (clinical professor track), or practical experience in dairy production systems (professor of practice track) are highly encouraged to apply. Other desirable qualities of the successful candidate include interest in sustainable dairy production, business management, and/or interest in population health. Strong interpersonal skills, leadership ability, public-speaking experience, and the ability to work in collaborative research, clinical, and teaching environments are required.

The successful candidate will serve as Director of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Dairy, providing operations direction to a working dairy, overseeing and/or coordinating veterinary care. Duties will also include teaching dairy production management and medicine to veterinary students, and leading staff training and development efforts. The individual will also contribute to the College's missions in dairy production medicine, sustainable food production, veterinary medicine, business management and public health. Duties may include developing, maintaining, and teaching in special training programs, public advocacy for the profession and College, and curricular oversight as the College recruits and trains veterinarians for future roles in food-supply veterinary medicine. Outreach activities engaging stakeholders of the dairy industry, related agribusiness, and other relevant societal groups and fostering dialogue with the campus community are encouraged.

A tenure track option is available for applicants with, or seeking to establish, an active research program in dairy production and health. Responsibilities will be similar as described above with effort allocation adjusted for a larger percentage devoted to research.

The individual will interact closely with faculty in both the Department of Public & Ecosystem Health and Department of Population Medicine & Diagnostic Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine. The candidate will also work closely with the Ambulatory and Production Medicine Clinic and the Quality Milk and Production Services in the College of Veterinary Medicine, the dairy faculty group within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and units/initiatives across campus interested in animal health, public health, sustainable food production, and advanced technology. The home academic department for the successful candidate will depend on the interests of the selected individual and the needs of the college. This position is full-time (12-month), with initial appointment being for three-years with opportunity for renewal contingent on funding and successful annual reviews.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $200,000 and will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
