Our Team:


The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college unit and the Statler Hotel across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our college's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness.

This Position:

Under the general direction of the Statler Hotel's Controller and as a highly engaged and collaborative member of the greater finance team in the College of Business, the Accounts Receivable Representative will work collaboratively with the Hotel operations team to ensure the adherence to proper accounting principles, policies, regulations, and PCI compliance. Key stakeholders that this role will interact with daily from the Hotel are the Rooms division, Food and Beverage division, Sales and Marketing, IT, HR, Facilities and student workers.


Main responsibilities for the Accounts Receivable Representative will include:

  • Ensuring that all types of payments received are posted and applied accurately to our local booking and point of sale systems, this includes a verification of credit card batch settlement.
  • Setting up of customer accounts in our property management systems and distributing our internal and external customer billing statements.
  • Participating in the decision-making process of credit extension to customers.
  • Processing of timely and accurate client charges with invoices and bi-monthly account statements.
  • Reconciling quarterly revenue used to determine sales incentive plan payouts.
  • Promptly answering customer inquiries and questions about their accounts.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or minimum of two years' experience in an accounting/business administration field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft computer applications and accounting systems.
  • Maintains adequate documentation of work.
  • Priority to uphold ethical and code of conduct standards of Cornell University, the SC Johnson College of Business, and the Statler Hotel Accounting office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience in the hospitality industry in a front office, night audit, accounts receivable or hotel operations position.
  • Experience working with a hotel Property Management System and Micros point of sale systems.
