The Vaccine Preparer (VP) is a Pharmacist who is responsible for preparation of vaccines consistent with health standards and contractual requirements. This position requires strong knowledge and skills relating to patient care, vaccine preparation and administration, organizational skills, communication with credibility, confidence, and experience with healthcare documentation. The VP ensures proper vaccine preparation and documentation in support of program operations. Interacts daily with patients, healthcare professionals, Caliburn employees and managers at the program. The VP reports to Supply Manager.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles, and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHS is recognized.

This position is notional and contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ready vaccine for administration in accordance with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and State, Tribal, Territories (STT) requirements
  • Draw doses and transfer vials to Vaccine Administrator (VA)
  • Dispose of sharps in appropriate receptacles
  • Document vaccine preparation records per contract requirements
  • Preparation of a separate needle and syringe for each injection
  • Review and inspects the expiration dates on the vaccine and diluent, if needed
  • Prepare vaccines in a clean, designated medication area, as directed, and based on administration schedule and project needs
  • Support high-demand CVC duties as assigned
  • Responsible for ensuring integrity and security of all privacy laws
  • Responds to a variety of inquiries of varying complexity by using knowledge and an understanding of established policies, procedures, and practices for safeguarding information (HIPAA, PHI, PII), including maintaining confidentiality of all company proprietary information
  • Relies on research, cognitive reasoning and follow-up skills to complete tasks, fact-checking information to verify and document information, ensuring applicability, feasibility, and data integrity
  • Proactively multi-tasks on a variety of assignments; provides thorough work while maintaining a sense of urgency based on program needs
  • Maintains professionalism, ethical standards, discretion, candor, privacy and confidentiality of all company proprietary information, meetings, communication, and documents, including implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization
  • Accountable for and maintains a positive attitude and work culture with high motivation to achieve and excel in decision making, strong communication skills, and innovative problem-solving skills in line with organizational values
  • Performs duties in a safe manner and follows the corporate safety policy
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with contract requirements

Job Requirements

  • Doctorate or PharmD Degree in Pharmacy
  • Certification, in specialty, by the appropriate certifying organization
  • A current, active, and valid unrestricted Pharmacist medical license in one of the US states, territories, or commonwealths
  • Must have passed the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE) (except California) - California Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (California)
  • Actively practicing, in specialty, with minimum experience of three (3) years
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience in a medical setting supervising other medical professionals performing functions of a similar nature
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees to include superiors, colleagues, and individuals
  • Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, to include MS Office products and other proprietary databases
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized, and have very good verbal and communication skillsto include good punctuation, spelling, grammar, and attention to detail
  • Desire to work in a dynamic team environment that encourages innovation and contribution
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, active engagement, motivation, and direction to achieve success
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
  • Flexibility to operate on different shifts based on work demands
  • Be able to pass and maintain all required background, suitability, and credit checks as required by the contract
  • Must complete all training as required by the contract
  • Fluent in English language (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Possess a current and valid U.S. state/territory identification
  • Willingness to travel in the U.S. as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Specialty Certifications including, but not limited to:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), etc.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish or other languages (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Experience working with emergency and disaster response
  • Prior high-volume patient care experience, to include hospitals, clinics, and other medical service provision
  • Experience working in a government contracting environment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Adaptability and flexibility to sudden and dynamic change management requirements; evolving work requirements may include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities
  • Location of services may at times be in remote, austere,or challenging environments
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • Work may involve sitting for prolonged periods of time with high volume screen use
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
  • Due to varied current global health climate, additional personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines may apply.Employees may potentially be working in an environment supporting the medical response to an emergency health crisis created by a highly infectious disease, COVID-19
  • Due to security concerns in specific work locations, it may be mandatory to wear PPE to include body armor, facemasks, and other hazardous protective equipment as required
